Probably the hardest question she asked me was "So why are you two together?"

It's the kind of situation where you have less than a minute and an imposed slowness caused by note-taking to answer the question.

I'd need either a flippant four seconds or hours and hours of pauses and excuses and defenses and introspection and clarification and justification.
